Helen Theresa Lewis, resident of Ponca City, died Monday, December 29, 2003, at her residence. She was 72.
The funeral service will be held 10:30 am Saturday, January 3, 2004, at the Hartford Avenue Church of Christ with Mr. Don Huddleston, officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home.
Helen was born on October 15, 1931, to Ozias and Rose Noele Broussard Bourque in Henry, La. She graduated from St. Cecelia High School in Broussard, La. in 1948. Helen married Grady Lewis in New Iberia, La. on September 9, 1956. She was a member of Hartford Avenue Church of Christ since 1972, where she taught sunday school. She was an excellent cook and hostess, avid reader, wonderful mother and supportive wife. She is survived by her husband Grady of the home; two sons, David Harvel Lewis and wife Teresa of Ponca City and Samuel Grady Lewis and wife Kate of Ponca City; one daughter Sarah Helen Garfield and husband Joe of Tulsa; 13 grandchildren, April, Carli, Misty, Zac, Chris and Daniel Lewis all of Ponca City, Jason Garfield of Hartman, Ark., Tiffany Riouse, Melissa Garfield both of Broken Arrow, Liana, Michaela, Amanda, and Sarah Denise Garfield all of Tulsa; five great grandchildren, J. D. Garfield, Karissa Garfield of Hartman, Ark., MacKenzie Riouse, Jalen Riouse and Amiyah Burdine all of Broken Arrow; one brother, Donald Bourque of New Iberia; two sisters, Magdalene Rees of Lafayette, La. and Faye Davidson of New Iberia; one uncle, Howard Bourque of Port Arthur, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Hope Lewis.
Casketbearers will be David Lewis, Zac Lewis, Joe Garfield, Mark Lewis, Jeff Lewis and Jason Garfield.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Avery Davidson, Gregg, Paul and Sam Lewis and Charles Rees IV.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma Inc., 1904 N. Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, OK 74601.
