The world lost a special person when Harold O. Fisher Jr., age 95, Long time resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 in Ponca City.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home from 3-8pm on Sunday, August 13. A graveside ceremony to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 pm, August 14, 2017 at the Longwood Cemetery with Rev. Robert Montgomery officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Harold was born on March 4, 1922 to Harold O. Fisher, Sr. and Gladys Ellen Clarkston Fisher in Edmond, OK. He was raised in Ponca City, graduating from high school in 1940. After high school he attended OU on a football scholarship. Soon he heard his country's call to help in the war effort. In 1942, he joined the US Navy and served as a shipfitter in the SeaBees which is the construction division of the Navy. Upon being honorably discharged, he returned to Ponca City and where he worked for the Continental Oil Company for 45 years before his retirement in the early 1990s. His time at Conoco started in the refinery as a laborer and was then promoted to Safety Inspector. Harold then became the First Aid and CPR instructor, located in the Medical Department, for the corporation. In his career he traveled all over the globe providing safety and first aid education for over 10 years. After retiring from Conoco, Harold accepted the job of Civil Defense Director for Ponca City. Harold enjoyed all of his work years with enthusiasm and a positive outlook.

Harold's life was full, not just the time he had, but with substantial accomplishments. In 1955, Harold started the first little league wrestling club in the state of Oklahoma with the YMCA out of Tulsa. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Elks Lodge, and served on the board of directors for the Oklahoma Heart Association. Harold was a natural athlete. In high school, he wrestled, played football, and baseball. Golfing and Bowling and at the top of that list was fishing also allowed Harold to enjoy some healthy competition. After returning from the Navy, he played on Ponca City's minor league baseball team. As Harold aged, he continued to support his children and grandchildren in their athletic endeavors across the state. Harold saw only good in other people and was in kind loved by all who knew him. His fish and frog fries were legendary in his neighborhood. Family and friends, knew that Harold enjoyed catching the fish and frogs almost as much as the fellowship of eating them with others. No matter the task at hand, Harold was able to build just about anything or fix it. However, he wasn't too proud to ask for a help if the work required more hands.

On June 17, 1967, Harold was married to his love Linda K. Branen. Together, they celebrated over 50 years of wonderful years of marriage. His family gratefully recognizes the blessing of having been a part of Harold’s life.

Survivors include his beloved wife Linda of the home, son Bruce Fisher and wife Sharon of Tahlequah, OK, daughter Kym Fisher of Edmond, OK, grandchildren: Robert Bruce Fisher of Tahlequah, Karie K. Fisher if Tahlequah, Ryan Neal Fisher of Tahlequah, great grandchildren Josh, Jake, Jase, Dillon, and Daniel, great granddaughter Gunnison, and a Great, Great grandson who will arrive in November. As an animal lover and having served on the Board of Directors with Ponca City Humane Society we must also mention that he is survived by 2 horses, 2 llamas and 9 dogs. Also scores of dear friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Vernon Fisher, and Neal Fisher as well as his son Dana John Fisher.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 N. Fairview, Ponca City, OK 74601, or to your favorite charity.
