Saylors, Jo An, age 85, longtime resident of Ponca City, OK passed away Friday, March 23, 2018 in Ponca City.

Survivors include her children: Matthew Saylors of Ponca City, Kara Saylors of Ponca City, sister Zada Watkins of Tulsa, OK, grandchildren: Brandon Saylors of Ponca City, OK, Tabitha Saylors of Ponca City, Cherie Gatlin of Ponca City, David Walker of Ponca City, and Brandi Fetters of Pond Creek, OK, great grandchildren: Kaedin, Julian, and Calli. Jo An was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin Rambo and Nell McConnell Rambo and husband Cecil.

With the passing of artist Jo Saylors, the nation, Oklahoma and Ponca City lost a rare talent. Her talented hands molded a number of impressive statues. She used her talent to accent history and public places in Ponca City. The largest and most significant statue is “This Land is Mine” depicting a horseback rider getting ready to stake his claim in the land run. This statue is displayed at City Hall. Also at the City Hall site is the statue of Lew Wentz, also by Saylors.

Across the street on Grand Avenue at the Ponca City Library is a statue dedicated to children reading and is titled “Through the Eyes of a Child.”

Also for public viewing is “The Willow Whistle” in the flag court at the historic Marland Mansion. This statue depicts an older man sitting on a bench teaching two youngsters to whittle a whistle. This is an interactive scene where people can sit on the bench with the older man and have their photo taken. Also on the Mansion grounds is a bronze statue of a young boy fishing in the pond near the original entrance to the E.W. Marland Estate.

Cann Gardens displays a bronze statue featuring a young lady. “Mistaken Identity” is the name.

In the downtown area at the RCB Bank building on Grand Avenue, there is a statue of three little kids called “My First Deposit.”

She also created the “Lady of Justice,” a monumental piece for The Oklahoma Bar Association Building in Oklahoma City.

Saylors will be missed for her sense of history and beauty.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at Trout Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 28 and Thursday, March 29, from 8am-8pm. A ceremony to celebrate her life will be held at 2pm Friday, March 30 2018 at the Ponca City Assembly Church with Pastor Dewayne Bardwell officiating. Following the ceremony, she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Cecil at Resthaven Memorial Park.
