Obituary for Paul R. Kean

Paul Robert Kean passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017 in Oklahoma City. He was 69 years old. Friends and family will gather to celebrate Paul's life at the Ponca Lake Shelter Houses 1 and 2 from 5-7 pm on Sunday, September 3, 2017. Paul is being cared for by Trout Funeral Home & Crematory in Ponca City.

Paul was born on September 5, 1947 in Minneapolis, MN to Paul and Annette (Martel) Kean. His family moved to Des Moines, Iowa and when Paul was 16 they moved to Denver, Colorado where he graduated from South High School. He attended the University of Denver and transferred to Montana State University Billings to complete his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Math. From 1969 to 1976, Paul served in the United States Air Force and was a member of The Air Force Academy band where he played clarinet and guitar. During that time he met and married Sherry Bonawitz in Billings, Montana. Paul worked in sales for 5 years at Wrigley Gum and worked for 17 years in sales and management for Hershey Chocolate. Paul and his family moved to Ponca City in 1999 when he began working for Southwest Cupid as the Wal-Mart Account Manager. He retired on April 1, 2016 after 17 years with Southwest Cupid.

Paul loved to travel and took a yearly trip after Christmas by himself to reflect and get ready for the upcoming year. He was known as a mellow man, not easily angered and not possessing a mean bone in his body. His greatest achievement in life was raising his grandsons, Andrew and Samuel. It was his favorite job! Paul had a passion for all kinds of music, which he shared with his grandsons. His grandsons also thought it was amazing that Paul had kept a journal for nearly 60 years, writing in it everyday.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ronnie Wilcox, nephew, Mike Roller, and nephew-in-law, Richard Fraser.

Paul is survived by his wife, Sherry Kean of the home, daughter, Lora Rogers of Wichita, two beautiful grandsons, Samuel Dodson and Andrew Rogers of Ponca City, sister, Darlene Roller of Denver, Colorado, brothers-in-law, Jack Bonawitz of Boise, ID and Don Roller of Woodland Park, Colorado, sister-in-law, Sabrina Wilcox of California, niece, Jaci Fraser of Mansfield, Texas, nephews, John Roller of Woodland Park, Colorado, and Steven Roller of Denver, Colorado, many great and great great nieces and nephews and long-time dear friends John and Vicki Lambert of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Harry Wilk of Tucson, Arizona.

Before Paul died, Sherry told him to make sure the Denver Broncos win the Super Bowl.

Paul loved donuts, God's most perfect food, and would love for you all to have one today and think of him.
