Obituary for Betty Martin

Betty Lou Martin entered the gates of Heaven on August 17, 2019. She was surrounded by her loving family, friends, and caregivers during her last days. Betty was born on September 2, 1929 at the family's farm in Billings, Oklahoma to her parents, Mabel and Emil Back. She graduated from Billings High School and began working for Parkinson Tractor in Ponca City. She married the love of her life, George Glenn Martin, on July 16, 1948 in Ponca City. Together, they enjoyed 49 years of marriage and were members of the Grand Avenue Church of Christ and later, the Agape Church of Christ.

Betty loved her Father in Heaven. Spending time with and passing on her love for Him to her children and grandchildren was first and foremost in her eyes. Betty was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed quilting and needlepoint as well. She was proud of her yard and enjoyed working in the yard, mowing, and gardening. She loved cooking and feeding her family as well as traveling in the RV. She belonged to the Conestoga Camping Group and Timely Tips Club as well as being a Cub Scout Mom and Campfire leader. Her family was her life and George and Betty created a family who laughs, plays, and prays together. Founded on faith, family was a circle of strength, joined in love, kept by God.

Survivors include her son, George Glenn Martin and wife Tammy of Owasso, three daughters, Janet Toney of Choctaw, Gayla Dick and husband Glen of Oklahoma City, and Susan Jennings and husband Chris of Ponca City, 11 grandchildren: Robert Toney and wife Vanessa, Chris Toney and wife Jennifer, Cara Alsup and husband Quinn, Kelley Gandy and husband Brandon, Brad Dick and wife Ashley, Michael Dick and wife Angela, Salem Winzeler and husband Matt, Sundi Riddle and husband Cory, Brock Martin and wife Nichole, Kristin Jennings and fiancé Jonathan Fasking, and Kenny Jennings and wife Alena, 18 great-grandchildren: Tanner Toney, Tiffany Toney, Courtney Toney, Morgan Toney, Kaylee Toney, Brylee Toney, Bray Toney, Stella Toney, Bellamy Toney, Gage Alsup, Brylee Alsup, Baylor Alsup, Kamryn Rucker, Glendon Dick, Zelda Dick, Hallie Winzeler, Heston Winzeler, and Hutch Riddle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George Glenn Martin, one brother, Merlin Back, and two great-grandchildren, Hope Toney and Joshua Toney.

In loving response, the funeral ceremony will be held at the Ponca City Agape Church of Christ on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Casket bearers will be: Robert Toney, Chris Toney, Tanner Toney, Brad Dick, Mike Dick, and Kenny Jennings.
